Apartment in Rovisco País
The 130 m² Rovisco País apartment in Lisbon is one of the studio’s largest-scale residential renovations. The building, from the mid-20th century, offered a generous but compartmentalized typology – a legacy of the housing programs of the time that penalized spatial fluidity.
Intervention strategy. The approach adopted favored respect for the existing: surgical demolitions, maintenance of the structural skeleton and the original circulation logic. The main corridor was kept as the backbone of the plan, but the relationship between the rooms was rethought – opening up visual axes that connect the living room to the outside without eliminating the privacy of the bedrooms.
Programmatic reorganization. The typology changed from a compartmentalized 3-bedroom apartment to a 3+1-bedroom apartment with an integrated workroom – a direct response to the client’s program, which combines the main house with home office space.
Technique and sustainability. The complete replacement of the technical installations (electricity, HVAC, plumbing) ensured compliance with current standards and a substantial improvement in energy performance. The air conditioning system adopted allows individual temperature control in each room.
Project completed, with class B energy certificate.
