Apartment Praça de Espanha
The project to renovate the Praça de Espanha apartment in Lisbon is based on a careful reading of the existing building: a 100 m² apartment in a building from the second half of the 20th century, in one of the capital’s most emblematic areas.
The intervention maintains the original circulation logic – a central axis that organizes the connection between the private and common areas – and acts surgically on the elements that conditioned the use of space. Demolitions are minimal and structural alterations are treated with technical rigor, respecting the existing without subverting it.
Concept: controlled opening. The choice of a more open floor plan between the living room and kitchen creates a visual continuity that amplifies the perception of space, without compromising the privacy of the rooms. The entry of natural light is maximized by repositioning the interior partitions.
Materials and finishes. The selection of materials favors quality construction: natural wood floors, large-format ceramic tiles in the wet areas and bespoke carpentry throughout the storage solution. The color palette is neutral and timeless.
Energy efficiency. The replacement of all the window frames with double glazing with thermal break and the installation of high-efficiency air conditioning reduce energy consumption and increase comfort throughout the year.
The project is currently underway, under the technical coordination of Tiago R. Correia Arquitectos.
