Avenida de Roma Apartment
Avenida de Roma is one of Lisbon’s most sought-after residential areas – buildings from the 1950s and 1960s, with modernist features and an urban scale that gives the neighborhood its identity. This 70 m² apartment, which has been completed, has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment focused on spatial optimization and the user’s quality of life.
The challenge. The original configuration divided the 70 m² into overlapping compartments that made the space small and disjointed. The proposal solved this problem by eliminating a non-structural partition, creating an integrated living and kitchen area with continuous space – the biggest transformation with the least constructive impact.
New distribution. The apartment is reorganized around two axes: the day zone (entrance + living + kitchen) and the night zone (two bedrooms + bathroom). The corridor is eliminated as an isolated circulation element and is integrated into the geometry of the pieces.
Noble materials in a compact space. Natural limestone flooring in the common areas, wood in the bedrooms and exposed concrete in the wet areas create a clear material hierarchy. The interior carpentry was custom-designed to maximize storage without compromising spatial reading.
Project completed, currently inhabited by the client.
