Local Accommodation Ericeira

This local accommodation project in Ericeira comes at a time of strong growth in tourist demand in this coastal town – recognized by UNESCO as a World Surfing Reserve and with a heritage identity that sets it apart from other destinations on the Portuguese coast.

The property and the context. The existing building, located in a consolidated area of the town, had underused residential and tourist potential. The intervention focused on the structural and functional reorganization of the space, adapting it to receive a local accommodation program with independent units and quality common areas.

Program and capacity. The project envisages the creation of accommodation units of varying types – from studios to one-bedroom apartments – designed for medium-term stays close to the surf and nature. Common areas include a breakfast area and private outdoor space.

Integrated architecture. The architectural language respects the characteristics of the existing building – volume, materials and color – while avoiding a break with the surrounding urban fabric. The interior interventions adopt a contemporary aesthetic with references to vernacular Portuguese architecture: lime, wood and local stone.

BIM methodology. The project was developed using BIM methodology, which made it possible to optimize the distribution of the units, simulate energy performance and speed up the licensing process with the Mafra City Council.

The project is currently underway. It is scheduled to start operating in 2026.
